About the Author
Charles Hard Townes has taught at Columbia University, MIT, and the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to his 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in quantum electronics, he has been awarded the Templeton Prize and 27 honorary degrees.
Arthur Leonard Schawlow (1921–1999) is best remembered for his work with lasers. He shared the 1981 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the development of laser spectroscopy.

This book is basically made up of two halves.The first half of the book follows Silver Surfer as he encounters Thanos for the first time, and the Surfer's mission to stop Thanos' own quest of wiping out half the universe's population (Yep - it's actually less stupid than it sounds though). It's not terrible, but it's nothing amazing either. It feels very cheesy at times. It's a three star story.The second half of the book, Thanos Quest, is the reason to buy the book. Thanos goes across the universe, acquiring the 6 infinity gems. This was a very fun read, and although I knew nothing about Thanos prior to reading this book, this book has caused him to become my 2nd favorite Marvel Villain. He is very devious in how he deals with each of the 6 characters who possess the infinity gems, and is a lot like Lucifer from the Sandman universe, if you've ever read that series. A five star story.OK Silver Surfer story, combined with the excellent Thanos Quest story, averages to 4 stars.

I had already read the Thanos Quest comics that lead towards the Infinity Guantlet, but I wanted to catch up on the Silver Surfer comics that lead to Thanos Quest. This volume was worth buying even though I already owned the last two comics in this collection. I loved seeing how Surfer dealt with the return of Thanos and how he tries to stop him. Drax the Destroyer has a decent, funny issue in this collection, along with The Impossible Man, some character I was unfamiliar with. If you love Jim Starlin and the cosmic comics of Marvel, check this out.

This is a great Silver Surfer storyline that I believe prepare the Silver Surfer for the crossover event "The Infinity Gauntlet". This story is about the Silver Surfer confronts the resurrecting Thanos who's seeking the Infinity Gauntlet to control time, space & reality. Oh and Thanos also fell in love with Death. And of course, the Silver Surfer have his run in with the Impossible Man & Drax the Destroyer as he attempts to stop Thanos. It also features cameo appearances from She-Hulk, Captain America & the Human Torch (of the Fantastic Four). It also includes the two-part miniseries "Thanos Quest" which features Thanos seeking out the Infinity Gauntlet & the Infinity Gems that led to the crossover story "The Infinity Gauntlet" and bonus pages from "Logan's Run #6" which features Thanos & Drax the Destroyer.This is a great comic book storyline that soars the 90s. I have always love the Silver Surfer and I was disappointed that Marvel Studios hadn't done a "Silver Surfer" yet. But I'm enjoying this trade paperback story of "Rebirth of Thanos".

If you are going to read or are interested in reading the Infinity gauntlet, this must be read. I didn't even know it existed until I picked up the Infinity gauntlet and felt like many pieces were missing, one search on Amazon led me to this and it was an incredibly fun and informative read.

This was a very entertaining comic that depicts Thanos' quest to gain all six soul or infinity gems. It is fast paced and easy to understand without too much backstory. The art and fight scenes are beautiful. It shows how clever Thanos is and how far he will go to win Death's affection. Silver Surfer is also a prominent character throughout most of the book except for the last third or so. Overall, highly recommended to all Marvel fans especially those that love Thanos.

This story arch starts by following Silver Surfer, and then follows Thanos for the majority of the book. It's a fun, mind-bending story about Thanos' quest for the Infinity Stones. It's fun to lean about each stone's powers and to see Thanos cheat and trick his way to each one. I'm now really intrigued to see how the next Avengers film will be set up and if they will explore the origins and powers of each stone as much as this story did.

The Avengers have been captured by the evil Thanos (a super powerful demi-god), who plans to blow up our sun as a tribute to Death. In short order, Spider-Man and the Thing free the Avengers and a huge battle ensues between the heroes and Thanos and his many minions. In the midst of the chaos, Spider-Man manages to revive Adam Warlock (who was slain by Thanos in Avengers Annual #9). Warlock then takes his revenge on Thanos by turning him to stone. End of Thanos? Not exactly.Jump ahead a few years and Jim Starlin is penning the adventures of the Silver Surfer. He decides to bring back one of his greatest creations - Thanos! (Wise decision). This trade paperback features the complete story of the "Rebirth of Thanos", from Silver Surfer #34-38 and the excellent two-issue miniseries "Thanos Quest". As an added bonus it also includes a rare Thanos short story from the comic "Logan's Run #6" (huh???).Anyway, this is an excellent book with stellar writing by Starlin and crisp, dynamic art from Ron Lim. The gist of the story is that Death returns Thanos to the land of the living so that he can balance the scales of life and death by killing half the the sentient beings (people, animals, etc.) in the universe. The Silver Surfer learns of Thanos' plot and tries to stop him. The two battle and Thanos tricks the Surfer into thinking that he's killed him. This buys Thanos the time he needs to collect the Infinity Gems (formerly called the Soul Gems). Once he has all of the Infinity Gems in his possession, Thanos gains the unlimited power of a God. This is all a prelude to the massive Marvel crossover, "The Infinity Gauntlet". (Also collected in trade paperback). But that's a review for another day.To sum up, if you like awesomeness, you'll like this. It's a great story with great art from the days when Marvel comics weren't so concerned with the "real" world, and were still fun to read.
